This week was "Wheezer Appreciation Night" here on Tapping the Ether. Wheezer (aka "The Cincinnati Metal God") is one of my most loyal and support listeners--not to mention a helluva nice guy. So as a thank you to him I put together a special tribute to Judas Priest--featuring Priest doing covers of other artists, and artists doing covers of Priest. Wheeze and I also share a fondness for Rush (who once again got screwed over by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), so I played a sampling of Rush throughout their career as a gesture of defiance to the schmucks at the HoF.

Playlist for January 13
As mentioned, part of the show was pre-empted for Hockey this week. Still, I was quite happy with some of the music I managed to get on:)
Led Zeppelin..............Since I've Been Loving You
Scorpions.................Sails of Charon
Scorpions.................The Zoo
Iron Maiden...............Stranger in a Strange Land
Triumph...................Stranger in a Strange Land
Fates Warning.............The Strand
Lee Aaron.................Sex With Love
TYR.......................Wings of Time
Kamelot...................Black Halo
Kamelot...................Soul Society
Kamelot...................The Edge of Paradise
Dream Evil.................Fire! Battle! In Metal!
Hammerfall................The Fire Burns Forever
To Mera...................Blood
HIM.......................Vampire Heart
Lacuna Coil...............Heaven's a Lie
Evergrey..................The Dark I Walk You Through
Martyr....................Havoc
I managed to slip in 3 bands I'd never played before: TYR, Dream Evil, and To Mera. All three were very impressive, although TYR probably made the biggest impression with their power metal/folk combo (much like the sadly departed Mithotyn).
It was the first time I've played the Scorpions original version of "Sails of Charon". What an amazing song! As good as Testament's cover is, it's not a patch on the original!

New Releases and Programming Note
The winter is usually a thin time for new releases at the station, but we did get two new releases of note this week.
The first is Kamelot's "One Cold Winter's Night", and the second is God Dethroned's "The Toxic Touch".
Kamelot has been steadily growing on me since the excellent "The Black Halo", which also got a great response on the show. This 2-CD live set will give the chance to see how the band delivers the goods in a live setting.
We haven't received anything from God Dethroned since their impressive "The Grand Grimoire", so I'm interested to see how they've evolved in the intervening years.
Thanks to SPV and Metal Blade for making this releases available to us!
---------------------
Programming Note:
Due to a live Hockey broadcast on CFRC, tonight's Tapping the Ether will start an hour later (at 9pm gmt-5) and will end at 11pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Things should be back to normal (or whatever passes for normal these days) next week.
