Playlist for Oct 14

I think this week we played a nice mix of mainstream and heavy, new and old, famous and obscure.

Rush............................Crossroads
Bruce Dickinson.........Navigate the Seas of the Sun
Triumph......................Rock Out, Roll On
Warlock.......................All We Are
Helloween...................Revolution Now
Demons & Wizards....The Whistler
Pagan's Mind..............Through Osiris' Eyes
Gamma Ray................It's A Sin
Metallica......................Master of Puppets
Metallica......................The Wait
Testament...................Electric Crown
Children of Bodom......Aces High
Opeth............................Remember Tomorrow
Megadeth.....................The Scorpian
Voivod...........................The Nile Song
Black Sky......................Five Nights Waiting
Cradle of Filth...............I Am The Thorn

Finally picked up a copy of Master of Puppets to replace the station's vinyl copy (which went missing several years ago). Whatever bland, uninspired stuff Metallica has been doing the last ten years, Master of Puppets guarantees their place in metal history.

The Cradle of Filth song "I Am The Thorn" is one of the best I've heard yet! So far my favourite from the new album. Love that vocoder work!

Playlist for Oct 7

I sorry for the delay, but here's the playlist from last weeks show.

I played a lot more mainstream stuff last week, but with some stuff that I haven't played in a long time, or else have never played before.

Judas Priest...........Johnny B Good
AC/DC....................Back in Black
Led Zeppelin..........Living Loving Maid
Led Zeppelin..........Communication Breakdown
Rush........................Finding My Way
Ozzy Osbourne......Miracle Man
Lizzy Borden..........Lord of the Flies
Queensryche..........Gonna Get Close to You
Queensryche..........Won't" Get Fooled Again
Alice Cooper............Roses on White Lace
Savatage..................24 Hours Ago
Anvil........................Metal on Metal
Tokyo Blade...........Dead of the Night
Iron Maiden...........Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Iron Maiden...........Out of the Shadows
Amorphis................The Way
Sentenced...............Dead Leaves
Lacuna Coil.............Swamped
Voivod.....................No Angel
Cradle of Filth.........Lovesick for Mina

Notes: I know I've played the Johnny B Good recently, but Wayne played a couple of versions on The Blues Project so I played the Priest one for him to hear--it got the official Blues Project nod of approval.

The Tokyo Blade is a new aquisition--they were a very promising British metal band from the 80's who unforunately never made it. I always thought they were brilliant (based on their first two albums) but they never caught on. I will have a short history of them coming up in the future.

The Queensryche cover of "Won't Get Fooled Again" is a duet with Dream Theatre and comes from the DVD of Art of Live rather than the CD. They did an incredible job.

Catching up.

My apologies for the lack of updates. I've been on vacation and I've had computer problems, which have prevented me from posting as regularly as I would like.

Here's the playlist from Sept 30. It was a short show, as the first hour was pre-empted by live coverage of the University's annual Capture the Flag tournament.

Goat Horn.............Re-Animation
Annihilator...........Carnival Diablos
Overkill.................Necroshine
Obliveon...............Suicide Solution
Voivod.................. After All
Voivod..................Odds and Frauds
Voivod..................Red My Mind
Cradle of Filth.....The Byronic Man

Last week's show.

You can doubtless see that there's been no playlist posted for last week's show.

That's because Tapping the Ether was pre-empted to broadcast an evening football game.

Such interruptions are rare, but do occasionally happen. We apologize to anyone tuning in expecting to hear the show. Unfortunately we only found out about the pre-emption about 30 minutes before the show was scheduled to start, and due to technical difficulties with the game it looked like Ether might be on after all, before the problems were sorted out and the game went on as planned.

I'm working on a way of getting some advanced notice of such interruptions to the show in future, so that I can post such programming changes here on the blog.

Playlist for Sept 16

It was Homecoming Weekend here--an excuse to get nostalgic and have fun. So the playlist is "classic"heavy and thrash light for this week. I picked up some cool stuff from the 8o's (Judas Priest and Queensryche) and slipped it into the show.
